Parties. The Christmas kind. Ya know, the ones with figgy pudding? (Whatever figgy pudding is.)

Merry Christmas! ‘Tis the season for the singing of songs full of nouns and verbs that we have no idea what they mean. Like, “tannenbaum” (a German word for a species of fir tree, which you could kind of figure out by the repeated use of “Christmas tree” in its place, but still),  or, “troll”, as in, “troll the ancient Yule tide carols” (turns out “troll” is not a mythical cave dwelling being), and what’s a “Yule? Or, how awkward referring to an infant as “tender”, especially with the smell of turkey in the air? It’s just not appropriate.

But yes, Tis’ the season for song, happiness, and cheer….. And parties.. The Christmas kind. Which is why I’m writing this I suppose. (The first part of this post was for fun, factual entertainment..)

Next Wednesday, the 14th of December at the (exact) hour of 7 o’clock, we will be hosting a Christmas party. This evening will be filled with all sorts of Christmas themed happiness and cheer. Minus the HIGHLY odd and unusual Christmas sweaters with reindeer on them. To prove this point, I will give you a brief summary of things that will be taking place.

1. The Elf spaghetti eating contest….Thingy… (This event is subject to be changed without notice.)

As many of you have seen the classic movie Elf, Buddy, is apparently has a major problem in life.. He is ADDICTED to sugar and such items that contain it. Especially syrup. Which, I guess he likes on spaghetti too. So, because of the grossness of this idea, and everyone in the planning meeting for this party was like “We have GOT to try this!” , it made into the list of things taking place.

2. Two rights then make a left. Or was it right, left, right?

Instead of taking almost 1 full hour of our already pressed-for-time Christmas party, we aren’t having a white elephant gift exchange. But, we are playing right-left. Which goes somewhat goes like this; All of the people present will be divided up into teams. Each person will be given a gift and a made up a Christmas themed story…. Which greatly makes use of the two words that give direction, right and  left. Every time the team leader says the word right in the story, everyone passes their present to the, yeah, you guessed it, right. The same thing is applied to the left as well.

That is really all I’m going to give you. Don’t want to spoil it. So, I suggest you come out and see all the fun happiness yourself. It’ll be a great outing.  We hope to see you there. Oh, and for those of you who may be wondering what Figgy Pudding is, Figgy pudding is a pudding resembling something like a white Christmas Pudding containing Figs. The pudding may be baked, steamed in the oven, boiled or fried.

Merry Christmas to all!

Love, the Generation Church youth group. :)

Our Back to School Bash That Has Absolutely Nothing to Do With School….

‘Sup people! I do apologize for the great lack of updates. The past couple of months have been, well let’s just say, CRAZY! Anyhow, I will try my hardest to keep this thing updated as much as I can. But as the image above implies, this isn’t about all the things that have gone on this summer..

Thats right! It’s that dreaded time of year when we ALL have to get up a 6 a.m, sit through 8 hours of boring and completly pointless classes and listen to some random person talk, and by the end of the day, and if all the homework we got that day was money, we’d have enough to pay the national debt. Yeeeah, I’m talking about school. :( But no worries, we’re here to make the stupidity of the back to school season a little more FUN! (Yes I said fun..)

On Staurday, August 13th, our youth group (Generation Church or GC for short..) is having a Back to School bash. (Why it’s actually called a bash, I don’t know.) This event will be from 5pm to 10pm and will consist of all sorts of fun activities that have absolutely nothing to do with school AT ALL. (Cookout, volleyball, contests, prizes, bonfires, etc….) Now, I’m sure your asking “What do I need to do/bring?” Well, to answer that question. Nothing. All we want you to do is invite a friend. (And if you could bring some people with you, that would be legit.) Best part, IT’S A FREE EVENT! So now we’re not robbing you of your stash of cash for your monthly energy drink purchases… You people know who you are…… ;) Anyway, come on out! We’d LOVE to have you come and hang out with us for a bit. It’ll be a TON OF FUN! (I can promise you that much.) And it’s also been rumored that we might be trying to get some Roman Candles, sparklers and stuff like that… hehe

Sooooo, I guess thats all for now. But in other news, there are some exciting NEW things that I’ll be telling you about in the next couple of months. (Other youth events, a new Bible study that we’re going to start, our youth conference, etc….)

Signing off until next time,

Taylor.

Stories and Such… (Mexico Missions Trip 2011)

Hi. I’m not going to take an astronomical amount of you’re time. But I do want you to take a minute to read this.

On Saturday, June 18th, Calvary Church is sending a group of 19 people to Mexico for a missions trip. They will be going to a boys home to do some work down there and to minister to the boys. But, if anyone thats reading has ever been on a missions trip, they know the importance of having people praying for while you’re gone and thats what I want to talk about.

We, (as both a church and a youth group) are asking you, (the reader who just happens to be reading this) to be keeping the entire team in your prayers. (Especially our youth pastosr Rick & Beth Keller who are the leaders for this entire trip.) Mainly, be praying for their safety, and for God’s will to be done down in Mexico. (And if you can think of anything else to pray for, please do so.)

The group thats going down is an awesome group. We love them and are proud of what they’re going to accomplish. We pray that you for traveling mercies as they have to take FOUR planes to get there. (An we also pray that luggage isn’t lost of which this would be terrible.) The missions team really do appreciate your prayers… I’m sure they’ll tons of great stories to tell you once they get home.. Thanks for reading!

Sincerely, Taylor.

As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b

Camp 2011. :)

Ahhh, summer vacation.. That time of year when school is forgotten about, you get a SERIOUS sunburn from not wearing sunscreen, and you go to about a thousand different places for family vacations. But there is one other event that I probably should mention. That event is called youth camp.. And it’s a pretty big deal. (To us anyway.)

Mt. Deliverance Youth Camp, (located in Pennsylvania.) is the youth camp where we take our youth every year. Now by now your probably thinking thinking, “Pennsylvania? Isn’t that kinda far?” Yeah, it’s like an 8 hour drive. But still, the ride can be enjoyable depending who you ride with. Anyway, back to the main point. To get to the point, we would LOVE to take a very, very, very, VERY large group of teenagers this year. (I know, I’m asking you to forsake all and go to camp with us.. Get over it.) Is it hot? Lets say that an oven would probably be colder than what the weather is up there. (It’s the 3rd week of July so that’s to be expected.) Is it an 8 hour drive? Yes. (I wasn’t kidding.) Google it yourself. Are the sleeping conditions the greatest? No. Not at all. (At least the girls get A/C.) But the real question is, is it worth is? To answer that question, ABSOLUTELY! God shows up and shows off  (on a massive scale) every night on that hill. Kids have gotten their lives COMPLETELY changed at that camp.. (Even some of our pastors have had life changing encounters with God during those 5 days.) I can’t explain how awesome it is to you. It’s something you have to experience for yourself.. And YOU (the reader) have the chance to do that.

This year camp is July 17-22. The cost of camp is $150.00. A hundred for camp and fifty for transportation to and from camp. (Gas money really.) You will also need extra money for snacks, T-shirts, camp pictures, etc…  You can register by picking up a registration form at church, or by registering online.. (I’ll put the website below.) I really encourage you to go.. It will change your life FOREVER. (Trust me, it changed mine.)

For more info, you can go to mtdeliverance.org. There, you can find registration forms, what to bring lists, and the camper commandments form. (More like guidelines than anything else.)

Signing off until next time, Taylor…

Just a Quick update on whats happening in the world of GC…

Hmmmm. I have neglected the youth’s website yet again. (Not really my fault considering that there has been really anything going on worth saying anything about…) But anyway, for the sake of the blog not being updated in a while, I guess I’ll give you a quick update on whats been going on around here….

To start off, our Romanian youth leaders, Florian and Mirabela, just recently went back to Romania after spending 3 1/2 weeks (ish) here. Do we miss them? TERRIBLY!!!!!! But we know that they’ll come back to stay.. (Someday.) Our youth services on Wednesday nights have been…. well…. AWESOME! God has DEFINITELY shown up night after night.. Pastor Rick has brought some awesome messages the past few weeks. (Not that he has ever preached a bad message or anything.) Hopefully we can get those messages on the website so YOU (the kind reader), can hear the awesomeness that is our youth pastor..  As a youth group, we have grown quite a bit in the past couple of weeks. (Which is quite a good thing… The more the merrier as they say….)

Thats kinda whats been going now.. Now to give you a peek on whats coming soon..

The entire month of April will feature some “special” guest speakers. (who identities remain hidden to the general public.) So, it should be a pleasant “surprise.” We also are going on a brave endeavor to compete as a youth group against OTHER youth groups.. Which honestly, should result in world domination by GC. Considering that they have ME and I’M more awesome than the ENTIRE youth group COMBINED!!! haha!  Just kidding.. :P . But in all seriousness, We WILL WIN!! No doubt about that…

Well, I need to quit typing.. This was only supposed to be a couple sentences long. BUT, because of me being like a PEZ dispenser, (every time I put my head back and almost fall asleep, I think of something else to say.) this turned into being longer than I thought.. See ya later..-Taylor

Star Wars Episode 7: The return of the Romanians…..

Been a while since the last post. So, I thought I’d tell you about my new movie concept “Star Wars Episode 7; The return of the Romanians..” No good??? Maybe you’ll see the light when I tell you abouth the prequel to this movie “The Invasion of the Romanians.”

Long ago, in a small town far far away, a Romanian couple named Florian and Mirbela came to our church. Quickly, they plugged into our youth group. Master Rick decided to train them to become  Jedi’s. (And by that, I mean Pastor Rick made them youth leaders). They soon befriended many of the other Jedi’s (including me!) in our youth group, making the force stronger among us all. Then, Darth Vader decided to summon the two back to Romania.  But now, after defeating half of the imperial fleet, they are now on their way back to earth to visit the Jedi’s for a couple weeks.

Awesome right?? No? Not even a little? FINE!!!! Anyway, the point im trying to make is, Florian and Mirabela are coming NEXT WEDNESDAY!! Soooo, if you know this awesome couple (even a little) c’mon out to Tri-Cities Regional Airport to welcome them home. Their flight is scheduled to arrive at 5:30 so I’d be out there around 5:00 (ish). There will be a contest to see who can give them best tackle hug. (Just kidding). Anyway, Im out for now. Hope to see yall there. See ya later! Yours truly, Taylor.

A post about Sweethearts and Banquets. (well, actualy, I mean The Sweeheart’s Banquet…)

In the post below, I mentioned (somewhat) that our youth group is having a Sweetheart’s Banquet. Now I’m almost certain that you are wondering “what is this banquet anyway?” Well, to provide you with an answer here’s a brief description on what this rather “sweet” event is.. The Sweetheart’s Banquet is a fundraiser for GC’s mission trip to Mexico. This rather special event (at least we consider it special) will be held at Calvary Church on Saturday February 12, at 6:30pm. The cost of the tickets are $20.00. This years 2nd annual banquet will feature special guest, Pastor Wayne Holcomb.. The evening will be filled love, laughter, fellowship, and other fun activities. From what I hear, it will be quite the evening. But we (the youth) can’t make this happen without some help. We are in great need of the following help for the evening: hosts, hostesses, waiters, and waitresses. We are also much in need of people who would be willing to help us set up. (There is quite a bit of setting up to do.) If you are interested in helping out with any of the areas mentioned above, please let Rick and Beth Keller know. Please register at the information center, call the church office 423.282.2811 or email us info@visitcalvary.com. We hope to see YOU there. :)

Upcoming Youth Events and other exciting happenings…Etc….

Sooooo, this looks like this is the first blog post on GC’s website in FOREVER! Anyway, that is completely against the point of this post. The main thing I am to accomplish (or at least attempting to anyway) is to inform YOU (the reader) of the past, present, and future events and happenings of the youth… We started the year of 2011 with a study of the book of Philippians. As of now, this has been going on for about 3 weeks or so. The youth have also been working on a praise and worship team. Which, (to the best of my 14 year-old youth leader knowledge) is going pretty well. The youth have also begun to get ready for the Mexico Missions Trip which will be taking place in June. Now that I have informed you of the past and present, time to give you info about (pause for dramatic effect) the FUTURE events of GC..

To the best of my knowledge, here are some the up and coming events:

Feb 13: The 2nd annual Sweethearts Banquet. (Proceeds go the youth’s mission trip fund)

Feb 26: Bowling/Movie night. (More details to come VERY soon)

Well, I guess that is all for now. I think I have now accomplished what I was told to. Signing off until next time, Taylor..

Food Drive

GC is taking part of February and March to stock up Calvary’s food pantry! Just to keep it interesting, we’re going to have a bit of a contest. High schoolers vs. middle schoolers. Whichever group brings the most food items during the food drive wins.

Here’s what we need. Bring as many of these items as you’d like. (Make it a brand you wouldn’t mind eating – don’t buy cheap nasty food just because it’s cheap ;) Items with * are the greatest needs.

*Juice
Crackers
*Peanut Butter
*Canned Corn
*Canned Pinto Beans
Canned Green Beans
Canned Soup
*Spaghetti Sauce
Spaghetti Noodles
*Boxed Mac and Cheese
Corn Muffin Mix
Blueberry Muffin Mix
Instant Potatoes
*Hot Chocolate Mix

Do not bring economy sized cans or packages, keep them regular size.

Let the games begin!
